The former US Open champion, Sloane Stephens, has consistently backed the involvement of people from diverse backgrounds in women’s tennis. She also believes that the success of black female tennis athletes like Venus and Serena Williams will inspire other girls from similar backgrounds to follow in their footsteps.

The American tennis star, Stephens, is very active on social media and uses the platform to voice her opinions on basic African-American rights. Recently, she posted an inspiring message on her social media on the occasion of Black Women’s Equal Pay Day.
Sloane Stephens speaks out on Black Women’s Equal Pay Day
Stephens recently took to her social media to express her view on black women who face difficulties in getting equal compensation for their labor and services.
The former US Open champion, Sloane Stephens tweeted, “Today is #BlackWomensEqualPayDay , a date that signifies how far into the year Black women must work to earn what white, non-Hispanic men earned the previous year. On average, Black women earn 58 cents per every dollar earned by a white, non-Hispanic man.”

As an African-American woman athlete, Stephens is determined to break down racial barriers that have long prevented black women from receiving equal respect in their workplace.

Stephens’ US Open campaign
The former US Open winner, Sloane Stephens, started the tournament brilliantly as she defeated the Belgian tennis player, Greet Minnen. She won the first round of the US Open, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, against Minnen. But, despite her solid performance in the first round of the tournament, Stephens was defeated in the second round. The world No. 1, Iga Świątek defeated her 6-3, 6-2, and the Polish tennis star then went on to win the US Open.
Prior to this, she was also knocked out in the first round of Wimbledon. Stephens also participated in the French Open but she was defeated by fellow American, Coco Gauff, in the quarter-final.

Additionally, she has just won only 13 out of 27 games in this particular season. But despite her poor performance, Stephens defeated the Czech tennis player, Marie Bouzkova, to win the Abierto Zapopan trophy. Sloane Stephens will now compete in Parma at the Emilia-Romagna Open.
