Billie Jean King on Serena’s impact
King has known the Williams sisters since they were young and is aware of the challenges they had to face. While lauding her for an amazing career, the 78-year-old said Serena has lived the dream of many tennis players like her. Here’s what she said.
“Great thing about Serena. She is living our dreams. There were nine of us that were willing to give up our careers for the future generation and we got lucky and everything fell in the place but Serena’s living the dream,” she said.
King further added, “She has already made 100million on the court. And she has made many many millions, hundreds of millions of the court. But it’s the tennis that gave her the platform to talk about social justice but it also has given her money for her ventures, so she is living our dream.” She also praised Serena for inspiring the future generation. “Serena definitely helps the people that watch her today to dream big and particularly the kids,” King concluded.
