Czech professional tennis player Marketa Vondrousova has earned a huge name in tennis recently. She is in the finals of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and will be fighting for the Gold medal now. Interestingly, she has caused quite a few upsets at the Olympic games this year.
Marketa Vondrousova made headlines after she thrashed fans’ favorite Naomi Osaka at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She didn’t just stop there but also crushed Elina Svitolina in straight sets in the semis of the tournament.
Vondrousova was born on June 28, 1999, to Davis Vondrous and Jindriska Anderlova in Sokolov, the Czech Republic. It was her father who introduced her to tennis at the age of four. It seems that the sport is in the blood of the family as her mother was also a professional volleyball player.

The Czech player is a former junior’s world no.1 player. Surprisingly, she won 2 Grand Slams in the doubles category as a junior.

Professional Career of Marketa Vondrousova
Vondrousova turned professional in 2015 at the age of just 16-years-old. Even though she has only won a single title on the WTA Tour so far, she has seven ITF titles to her name in the singles category and four in the doubles category. Her highest career ranking on the tour has been 14 that she achieved in 2019. Her current WTA ranking is 41.
Marketa enjoyed some early success as she won the 2017 Ladies Open Biel Bienne at the age of just 17 years. However, she injured herself soon after that and thus, missed out on the latter part of the 2019 tennis season. Therefore, this remains the only title that she has won on the tour so far.

The early half of 2019 proved to be the best part of her career as she not only reached her highest career ranking but also ended up as the runner-up of the French Open 2019. Even though Ashleigh Barty defeated her in the finals, she impressed the fans with her phenomenal gameplay there.
