Alizé Cornet has been dealing with constant bugging for not keeping true to a statement she made. The French tennis professional earlier shared that she is thinking of taking a retirement from the sport. But the analysis phase got skipped and her retirement got sealed by the media.
Many believe that considering Cornet’s form and presence on the court, questions based on her retirement don’t hold any value. Even so, holding onto her last year’s light-hearted confession, the press again bombarded her with retirement queries.

Alizé Cornet about her retirement plans
While speaking to the press after securing an opening round victory, Cornet stumbled upon the question of her retirement. The reporter pointed out how she keeps on extending her career tournament by tournament after declaring 2021 as her last year.
To which she replied, “Who knows? I never said that I would stop for sure. I said I let the door open. Then the media were like, It’s her last year. I was like, Oh, man, I’m not going to justify myself. I will feel it in my heart when it’s time.”
Cornet, following her statement of marking an end to her career in 2021, altered it to the French Open of this season. However, she is still participating in events with no signs of stopping. To this, her response was, “After I played Roland Garros I knew for sure I couldn’t end on this Roland Garros. It was not an option for me to stop, not to play another Roland Garros. That’s why it’s in my mind right now. I’m going to push it till Roland Garros for sure next year, then let’s see what’s happening.”
“It’s in nine months. Many thing can happen mentally, physically. For now, I’m enjoying being healthy in my head and in my body. Yeah, I want to take it all right now.”
The former World No.11 on Wednesday thrashed the defending champion Emma Raducanu to advance in the tournament. She got the better of the British no.1 in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in the Louis Armstrong Stadium.
