Can Alexis Ohanian's passion for women's sports inspire more dads to support their daughters' dreams?

Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, welcomed their first child in 2017. Since then, Olympia has had her father wrapped around her pinky! Be it donning a chef hat to cook Sunday breakfast as pancakes, learning new recipes to satisfy her taste buds, turning into a caddy as they enjoy some father-daughter time on the golf course, Ohanian’s love for his daughters is evident. However, Ohanian Jr. has a special power over her dad: to get around the rules, sometimes.

Ohanian entered the world of Track and field with his latest venture at the New York City, Athlos. And this is where Olympia fell in love with the track. On November 8th, with Jemele Hill, the proud father narrated an incident from the meet, where he let Olympia get by the rules and run on the track. He said, “Olympia was there, and it was so cool. She came to Athlos. She was very nice and early, so I let her run on the track, warming up with some of the ladies.

The meet featured 5-time Olympic medalist Gabby Thomas, Alexis Holmes, Faith Kipyegon, and other famous names. Certainly a big moment for the little Olympia, and it seems that she couldn’t get enough of it. Consequently, she made a small request to her father. “And after it was all over, way past her bedtime. But she still asked me, “Hey can I go and run on the track some more after?” And I was so happy to let her oblige, so I let her run,” Ohanian further added. This changed things for the 7-year-old.

As she now has another sport to focus on. Yes, Olympia went to her parents recently to join the track. Narrating the moment, Ohanian further said, “And literally a day or two later, she came up to me and her mom and said, “I wanna run track now.” And I was like, Okay, Okay! I mean, she is still doing tennis lessons, and I still do golf with her. We’ll see. We’ll see how well this track thing sticks.”

Since the 23-time Grand Slam champion introduced the technology enthusiast, Ohanian, to the world of sports, he has made the sports world his home. Ohanian has gone on from collecting his wife’s card just to raise their value to buy a women’s soccer team. This is not all. The Angel City FC has made big gains in terms of valuation! However, behind everything, there is just one motivation for Ohanian: his daughters!

When Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, said that was destined to be a “girl dad”

We have Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, in various roles, as a co-founder, an owner of a sports team, and as a husband to the tennis legend. However, the most profound role that he has played since 2017 has been that of being a father to their daughter. And everything that he does is for women, particularly women’s sports.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Alexis Ohanian's passion for women's sports inspire more dads to support their daughters' dreams?

Have an interesting take?

When US weekly published that, “Alexis is such a hands-on dad and so caring and supportive. He’s loving being surrounded by women and takes the role of girl dad very seriously.” They were spot on. The father himself confessed to being a proud dad on his podcast, Business Dad, with filmmaker Ken Burns. He said “See, I’ve got two myself. I figured I was destined to have girls, and there’s a part of me that just knew—and it’s awesome to be a girl dad.”

Despite being a hands-on dad, there is one more thing that Serena Williams’ husband doesn’t compromise upon: business. While uplifting women’s sports, Ohanian has ensured that it is a profitable business for himself and, of course, the youngest owner in the history of the sport: his daughter!
