Serena Williams‘ husband has seen life come full circle! Starting from losing his mother at a young age, to being an attentive parent to his daughters, especially Olympia. But it’s more than that. Recently, Alexis Ohanian connected both the crucial elements of his life and revealed how losing his mother early turned him into the dad he is today.

In a recent podcast conversation on “Business Dad,” he opened up about the learning he received from his parents, which he applied after becoming one. He stated, “I lost my mother to cancer. I had just started Reddit. I was little – I was 21-22 when she got diagnosed, but it’s so interesting. I look at fatherhood now through the lens of that relationship, that it shaped things in ways that I didn’t fully appreciate at the time, I certainly have a lot more opportunities to give our kids now than I did.”

The 40-year-old American entrepreneur opened up about how, as he lost his mother at a young age, he understands the responsibilities of a father, and there are a lot of opportunities for him to pass on to his kids. Subsequently, he added, how his mother’s death helped him to take a different look at fatherhood that he would have never thought of.

Further, he added, “But the most important one that I know I got from both my parents was this willingness to invest some attention and support, because they were the ones who saved up the money to get the computer that they put in my room and let me tear apart as long as I could put it back together.”

While Ohanian kept expanding and climbing Reddit, he suffered the tragic loss of his mother in 2008. Her legacy acted as a ray of hope for the budding entrepreneur despite this tragic death. Ohanian established the 776 Foundation with the goal of empowering individuals with ideas that can change their lives, motivated by her lasting influence.

Ohanian hopes to pay tribute to his mother’s legacy through this foundation by providing support to forward-thinking individuals who aspire to have a major influence on the world. He has previously brought up his mother and daughter in the same conversation, though. The Reddit co-founder posted a heartfelt statement about a month ago, celebrating his family.
