As the news of Tori Bowie made rounds, more people became aware of the problems with the treatment of persons of color when it came to medical care. Bowie died in her home, and she was eight months pregnant. An autopsy conducted revealed that Bowie was in labor when she passed away.

Alexis Ohanian noticed the story and realized that he had seen a similar situation with his wife Serena. He could not help but be outraged about the story. Further reports said that Bowie died due to Eclampsia, which occurs in less than 3% of women with preeclampsia, a high blood pressure disorder in pregnancy. The condition can cause many complications and requires immediate medical care. This brought to light the fact that the former track athlete lacked proper care.?

Williams had a learning curve after she delivered Olympia. As she suffered through a horrific experience herself, she shared her story for the status quo to change. To solidify her claims, a track athlete lost her life, and the world is lamenting her loss.?
