Who doesn’t love a good tennis love story? The sport has seen its fair share of power couples, from Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas to Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter. The latter pair even recently announced their engagement, proving that being in the same profession doesn’t mean a relationship won’t work. But they aren’t the only duo making headlines. There were whispers of a new budding romance on tour between Alexandra Eala and Coleman Wong. The duo have been making their own mark at the Miami Open. However, the Filipino tennis star has now set the record straight.

Both Eala and Wong are making waves at the Miami Open with impressive performances. Eala pulled off a huge win over former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko in the second round, marking her first victory against a top-30 player. She didn’t stop there. In the third round, the 19-year-old stunned reigning Australian Open champion and World No. 5 Madison Keys with a commanding 6-4, 6-2 win. Meanwhile, Wong made headlines on the men’s side by taking down American star Ben Shelton in the second round.

The two young talents share a common background—they are both products of the Rafa Nadal Academy. This led to speculation that their time training together had sparked a romance. Social media fueled the rumors, with pictures of them together making the rounds. But Eala recently dismissed any such talk.

After her win over Keys, she was asked about her relationship with Wong in a press conference. She simply replied, “No, he is not.” While shutting down the rumors, she made it clear that she was happy for Wong’s success in Miami. “You know, I’m super happy for him and to see someone that I’ve known so long do so well is definitely an inspiration. Not just to me, but I feel in general a lot of people can take inspiration from him,” the Filipino said.

Right now, Alexandra Eala’s only love appears to be tennis. In a past ITF video, she admitted, “I don’t think it was a love at first sight kind of thing. I think it was more of like gradually starting to fall in love with the sport.” That love has paid off, as she continues her breakthrough run at the Miami Open. So who’s her next opponent?

Eala is making history with every match. She is now the first Filipino to defeat a top-10 player since 1990, the first to beat a Grand Slam champion twice in one tournament, and the first to reach the Masters 1000 round of 16. The 19-year-old understands the impact of her achievements. “Growing up, it was tough,’’ she said. “You didn’t have anyone where you’re from to pave the way. I hope this takes the Philippines to the next step.”

Meanwhile, Wong is also keeping his Miami Open campaign alive. After defeating Ben Shelton in a tough three-setter, he is set to take on Adam Walton in the third round. If he advances, the 20-year-old will face either Taylor Fritz or Denis Shapovalov in the fourth round.

Both Eala and Wong are proving that they belong on the big stage. While romance rumors may be put to rest, their performances are speaking for themselves. Can they continue their impressive runs and make deeper inroads at the Miami Open?
