Amanda Anisimova, who reached the semi-finals at the 2019 French Open, lost her opening round match at Roland Garros this year to the 29th seed Veronica Kudermetova 6-7,1-6.

The young American sensation, who defeated the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Simona Halep in Paris a couple of years ago, failed to sustain the pressure enforced by Kudermetova right from the first set.

Amanda Anisimova loses against Kudermetova in the French Open first round

Right from the start, the Russian dominated Anisimova from the baseline. But, the American took the first set to a tie-breaker with her strong defense. It was a closely contested tie-breaker as Kudermetova got a break point at the right moment to clinch the set.

The baseline exchanges between the two players remain the highlight of the first set. After giving it all in the first set, the young American lost her way in the second set, as she was down by a double break quickly.

Kudermetova not only dominated the rallies, but was equally efficient in her serve. She won a whopping 81% points on her first serve, which displays the accuracy of her serve. The Russian also managed to break Anisimova’s serve four times in the entire match.

Even in the return of serve, Kudermetova claimed more points than her opponent. The Russian won 32 points on-return compared to Anisimova’s 24. With this incredible victory, Kudermetova has won 14 matches on the red dirt this year, and lost just three.

Last year, the Russian won the Charleston Open by defeating the likes of Paula Badosa, Sloane Stephens, etc. Veronika Kudermetova will now face either Katerina Siniakova or Marie Bouzkova in the second round at Roland Garros.
