The injury struggle for the 19-year-old British player, Emma Raducanu, continues, as she retired from her opening match against Bianca Andreescu at the Italian Open. Today, fans had plenty of expectations from the match between two former US Open champions. Unfortunately, Raducanu had to retire in the second set after facing yet another problem with her back.

At the Madrid Open, Raducanu faced the same problem during her match against Anhelina Kalinina, as she lost against her in the round of 16. After the loss, she talked about having an issue with her back. Later, she assured everyone she would be fine at the Italian Open, but it appears that was not the case.

In today’s match against Bianca Andreescu, she suffered the same, as she had to retire from the match. After losing the first set pretty easily, she had to take a medical timeout to treat her back. In the second set, however, she called it quits after falling behind 1-2. The final result of the match was 6-2, 2-1 in favor of the Canadian player.

After the match, both the players talked to one another, and Bianca showed respect for her opponent.

A big setback for Raducanu ahead of the French Open

This year is not going great for the British player, as she had so many injury concerns. At the Australian Open, she lost in the second round, as she had blisters on her hand. Later, she had to retire again at Guadalajara against Daria Saville in the very first round due to an injury. A few days back, she suffered another setback, as she sustained a back injury after her match against Kalinina at the Madrid Open.

Undoubtedly, this will be a big problem for the British player going forward, as the next Grand Slam tournament is just around the corner. After the French Open, she will play at Wimbledon, her home Grand Slam. If her injuries continue to bother her, it will be difficult for her to play at her full potential. Meanwhile, she also parted ways with her coach before the Madrid Open, and has been doing self-coaching. So, two major concerns for the Brit, as she is trying to emulate her form from 2021.
