Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci had previously shared in multiple interviews and even on his official Twitter account about how he approached Emma Raducanu’s team. The reason for him to approach her team was to discuss the possibility of them coming together so that he could help her win more.
This pointed to the possibility that Rick Macci may become Raducanu’s coach for the coming season of tournaments. However, in his recent interview with ES Fancast, he shared how right now he does not have enough time to entertain any players for coaching. Well, this certainly snubs out any possibilities there were of the two of them teaming up.

Macci had posted on his official Twitter account that he had called Raducanu’s agent to discuss if there was some way, he could train her to make sure she wins more in the future. However, during his exclusive interview at the ES Fancast, what he shared was quite contrary to what people were assuming about him and Raducanu teaming up.
When asked if he had any plans to take up coaching soon, he shared, “I have got too much on my plate. I am not a travel coach. I would rather build the box, rather than sit in the box. But I would have like worked with someone from start to finish and they got to the finals then I would obviously go with them.”

His answer for now does not point to the fact that he may join a team with anyone including Emma Raducanu. Raducanu is not the only player he was interested in working with. The list also consists of the US Open winner of 2023, Coco Gauff.
Macci did not get the possibility to work with Coco Gauff as well
During the interview with the ES Fancast host, Rick Macci shared how he was very close to working with Coco Gauff as well. But she went for Brad Gilbert and even won the US Open 2023 season under his mentorship. Further, he also shared that Coco Gauff’s father is good friends with him. And he was the one who reached out to him for Gauff.

He added that the forehand for Gauff is a little speed bump for her which is why they wanted him to coach her. However, Macci refused to coach her then because he felt that Gauff needed to improve her reflexes and get surgery done on her wrist to reprogram her weaknesses.
