It was the 2017 Australian Open. American tennis legend, Venus Williams reached the finals of the tournament after some eye-catching displays in the earlier rounds. However, she was up against a monumental challenge in the summit clash. The 43-year-old was up against her younger sister, Serena. Eventually, it was the latter who prevailed and won the 2017 Australian Open title. Venus was close, but couldn’t grab the last big opportunity to win the major title Down Under. Recently, a major update broke about Venus regarding this tournament.

The former World Number 1 has had an injury-laden 2023 season. While she has played in a handful of tournaments, Venus has had early exits from them. Let’s find out what her upcoming schedule looks like.

Venus Williams’ comeback plans revealed

At 43, Venus is nearing the end of her illustrious career. However, she is hoping for one last laugh before she calls time on her illustrious career. Injuries haven’t helped her cause as she has missed most parts of the ongoing season. She last played at the US Open, where she lost in the opening round.

As Venus moves on the path of recovery from her injuries, her upcoming schedule came to light. She won’t be seen in action again this year. Although the seven-time Grand Slam champion will skip next year’s Australian Open, Venus will make a grand comeback in her home country where she’ll play in Indian Wells and Miami.

Before this announcement, Venus was set to actually make a comeback much earlier. However, an unexpected turn of events ruined her plans to get back into action.

Confusion creates havoc regarding Venus’ comeback

Recently, it was suggested that Venus will be making a comeback at the WTA 250 Jasmin Open in Monastir, Tunisia. The tournament, which is ongoing currently, might have proven to be a great platform for her to come back to tennis. She even got a wildcard to play in the event.

Along with singles, Venus was also set to play doubles with Ons Jabeur. However, the latter announced her withdrawal from the tournament, saying, “Everyone, so sorry that I have to withdraw because my knee is not feeling so great and I would just want to say that I love my time here in Zhengzhou and hopefully I can come back next time. Thank you for the fans for cheering for me and hope to come back next year. Thank you.”

As a result, Venus too pulled out of the tournament and the playing list excluded her name. With Venus done for 2023 on the tennis front, it remains to be seen if she can come back stronger next year.
