The 40-year-old recently spoke to Allure about what made her relationship work and how Oprah Winfrey’s guidance led her to find her true love.

Serena Williams on Oprah Winfrey’s relationship advice

Back in 2019, Serena Williams spoke with Allure about Oprah Winfrey’s importance in building her relationship with her husband, Alexis Ohanian. During the conversation, she opened up a few of her relationship secrets by saying, “Oprah said, ‘Never let anyone dim your light.’ That really stuck with me. Alexis doesn’t dim my light. He doesn’t try to dim my light. puts me in the light, even if I don’t want to be. He pushes me to further points I never thought about.” 

She further revealed that “It always was something that I could see in some relationships — my light would be dimmer. Now I feel like I can shine really bright and still do everything that I want to do.”

In the interview, Williams also discussed raising her daughter Alexis Olympia and instilling a strong character within her. She also talked about nursing Alexis for eight months and how it made her return to professional tennis more difficult than she had anticipated.

On the morning of their first day in Rome, Serena and Ohanian happened to sit next to each other at the breakfast table of the Cavalier Hotel. Alexis walked over to the table where Serena and her pals were sitting and took a seat next to them.
