The Japanese player went down to follow her idol to the core. She has always fought against injustice. Back in 2020, after a black man named Jacob Blake was shot by police officers, Naomi decided to boycott her semifinal match at the Western and Southern Open.
She also went on to hint that she did not like being identified on the basis of her skin color or her ethnicity. “As long as I can remember, people have struggled to define me,” she said. “I’m Asian, I’m Black, and I’m female. I’m as normal a 22-year-old as anyone, except I happen to be good at tennis,” she added. “I’ve accepted myself as just me: Naomi Osaka.”
Thus, Serena Williams and Venus Williams have had a deep impact on the players. From their early days, they have always stood up for what’s right. Naomi Osaka has instilled the same qualities and has used her platform well to fight against inequality.
