Serena Williams’ Alexis Ohanian is the epitome of a doting dad. From flipping pancakes on weekends to planning fun outings, his daughters are always his top priority. But even when life throws him a curveball, like a health scare, his fatherly instincts remain front and center. Recently, while battling an unexpected health issue, Ohanian turned to his fans for a little advice. In true “Business Dad” style, he cheekily asked for tips on how to explain the situation to his elder daughter, Olympia.

The 41-year-old took to his X on Thursday and shared a serious update about his health. Ohanian revealed that he battled with a suspicious nodule growth that had the potential of turning cancerous. However, he shared some pictures from his stay in the hospital and his leisure time with his children from Disney World, highlighting that he underwent a successful surgery to remove half his thyroid and is on the road to recovery. Captioning the post, he wrote,

“After tracking some suspicious nodules on my thyroid for the last 4 years, I recently got half of it surgically removed.” Detailing his problems further, he shared, “The nodules were getting bigger & the latest biopsy revealed they’d very likely turn cancerous. I wasn’t gonna take any chances; the surgery was smooth and I’m extra grateful this Thanksgiving because I got the call this morning that my now-removed-half-of-thyroid was indeed full of some gnarly nodules that were very likely to become cancerous.” But now, there seems to be a major challenge ahead of the Reddit co-founder.

In the picture he shared, a post-surgery scar is visible on his neck. Highlighting the same, a user wrote, “You’ll have to think of a good story for the bada– scar.” Ohanian was quick to acknowledge the fact and sought advice from users for a potential explanation he could give to his daughter. “I can’t wait. Open to suggestions before I ask my 7-year-old to come up with something,” the business mogul wrote. 

Despite battling the health issue, Ohanian took his daughters for an outing to Disney World. But as they enjoyed their journey through the world of Batuu, an unexpected encounter with the infamous First Order added a twist to their fun outing. However, Olympia stood firmly, depicting immense bravery, and got into a fighting stance, depicting she was prepared to confront the figures. This quickly drew admiration from her father. 

Taking to his Instagram story, Ohanian shared a picture of Olympia and wrote, “That’s my girl.” He also made a similar remark on his X account earlier. Sharing pictures from the outing, Ohanian wrote, “I was so proud of her for this reaction to being kidnapped by The First Order.”

Ohanian concluded his social media post, saying: “To my fellow men—make those doctor’s appointments—especially if y’all are dads. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.” This comes after Ohanian revealed that he contracted Lyme disease, an infection spread to humans through the bite of a tick carrying borrelia bacteria, in July.

He shared this news candidly on social media. “Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc, and found out I have lyme disease,” he said on X. “Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat. Good cholesterol is too low. Bad cholesterol is just OK. Gotta work on that. On the plus-side: 822 ng/dL total + 162 ng/dL free testosterone.”

All this while, Olympia motivated Ohanian to ensure self-care, which was not his priority earlier.

Alexis Ohanian never fails to showcase his love for his family, but when it comes to his daughter, he knows no bounds. It is for this love that he even changed his worldview and started to focus more on his health. That was definitely not the case when he was in his 20s. In an 2023 interview with Entrepreneur, Ohanian revealed how he overcame his negative traits and how Olympia became his source of motivation. 

In the interaction, Ohanian revealed, “I was like, I need to change everything so that I can be around for as long as possible for this little one (Olympia).” Continuing further, he added, “And that’s been one of the superpowers, frankly, of becoming a dad.”

The major reason he attributes to these changes is the perception he wanted to build about himself for his daughters. “You actually don’t care about anything else in the world other than this kid’s perception of you. Another gear unlocks once you have that dose of humility, and it’s great. I think it’s made me so much better.” 

For now, it would be interesting to see what reason Ohanian actually finds to give to his daughter and how Olympia reacts to her father’s health battle.
