Things didn’t go as planned for the American legend, Serena Williams, as she took part in her daughter Olympia’s ballet function with her husband Alexis Ohanian. It was Olympia’s production of The Nutcracker and Serena and Alexis rehearsed hard to be perfect on the stage. However, Williams’ makeup and look for the play drew criticism from some people. To make matters worse, her shoulder troubled her during the rehearsals as well. However, as Serena recovers now, she is receiving support from the fans.
Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, played the role of husband and wife in the ballet. The couple even missed the Las Vegas Formula 1 GP, as they rehearsed. However, the practice seemed to take a toll on the 23-time Grand Slam champion, as she shared her suffering in an update on TikTok.
In the video, she could be heard saying, “The other day I was, more like two weeks ago, I had started experiencing this weird pain in my shoulder and down my side. I couldn’t lift my arm and then I was in my daughter’s play. So, my makeup too, I was doing- I had to do like really crazy, wild stage makeup for this role. My last post is here. So I ended up having, anyway- we were in rehearsal and I had this crazy pain in my arm every time I had to go in for a turn…Alexis would turn me and I’m like ahhh, this is killing me.”

Serena had to visit her doctor to relieve her pain. The cause of the recurring pain was due to her nerves. She further elaborated on her condition as she took therapy. “My nerves were just getting on my nerves. One would say. And my nerves need to be woken up. (abrupt cut) I don’t know where I was but, basically, it’s just some referred kind of pain that can come and it’s like when your nerves are severed or something happens. I don’t know, I’m not a doctor, don’t listen to me. Basically, it hurts, and I got to get treatment. But it’s feeling better already, and the performance went well… Also, I feel like my eye is swollen. My lips look swollen too, okay? I could do with that.”- Serena remarked.
While fans earlier criticized Serena for her make-up and appearance in the ballet, they later came out in her support, as she recovered from pain.
Fans come out in support of Serena Williams after a painful ending at Olympia’s Ballet
Serena Williams donned a red dress with a blonde wig with fringes, as she stepped on the stage with her husband. However, her makeup attracted criticism from fans, after she posted a post-rehearsal clip on TikTok. While one fan called her ‘unrecognizable,’ another fan queried, “Who and where is her stylist?” A fan wasn’t able to figure out why Serena opted for this sort of look at all. “Serena I been watching you play tennis since day one, you were always beautiful to me, you didn’t need to change nothing about yourself,” the fan wrote.

However, things turned around when she posted another clip, as she seemed to be undergoing treatment on her shoulder. In the clip, Williams appeared without makeup, though her brows still carried some reflection from the ballet. The fans didn’t mind that though. “Your brows look good☺️,” a fan wrote. Another fan shared a similar view as well, as they thought Williams looked, “Stunning🥰, as usual.”
This is not the first time that Williams has been subjected to speculations regarding her looks. Back in August, she faced criticism from fans, as they accused her of lightening her skin tone and other cosmetic surgery. However, the 23-time Grand Slam champion clapped back at the critics with a beautiful snippet on Instagram, as she dressed in double denim, with the caption, “100% real … forehead to toe … lol.” However, that is a thing of the past.
Many fans further appreciated Serena’s look in the recent video without makeup. One fan said, “No makeup ever needed, sheesh, you are a drop-dead gorgeous girl!! Wow.” Rightly so, the mother of 2 never shies away from sharing her natural look or donning a dress for an event. And the fans love her for that.
