“I love to play doubles, so I’m just really happy that I can say I have all this success, but it sounds amazing.” Katerina Siniakova said after her glorious Australian Open victory with her doubles partner Taylor Townsend. The American WTA pro and Czechia’s star player won their second Slam together after last year’s Wimbledon. In a tough final encounter, that ran for two hours and 27 minutes at Rod Laver Arena on Sunday, the two bested Hsieh Su-Wei and Jelena Ostapenko with a score line of 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-3. Although it’s been days already since they scripted history in Melbourne, Siniakova still wants to relive her emotional moments with Townsend.

The Australian Open win brought a second Doubles Major title for Taylor Townsend. However, it’s a 10th Slam win, in doubles, for Siniakova. Also, the World No.1 now has three titles down under in doubles. When you become a Major winner, it becomes tough not to flaunt your hard-earned success. It appears to be the case for both Siniakova and Townsend.

On Tuesday, her Czech partner took to Instagram and shared a series of pictures. They showed them holding the coveted Australian Open women’s doubles trophy. “That’s a wrap for AO’25 🥹 One to remember 🥰♥️” Siniakova wrote in the caption. The two were holding the trophy while kissing it as well, reflecting what it mean to them.

After the win, Siniakova’s World No.3 doubles partner Taylor Townsend had no words to describe her feelings. This victory was more special for the 28-year-old due to another reason. But what was it?

Taylor Townsend expresses a poignant moment after returning to the Australian Open a decade later

For the unversed, Taylor Townsend last played at the Australian Open when she was a junior, aged 15. Coming back after such a long period and eventually lifting the trophy was very special for her. In an official press conference, she said, “The last time I played on this court, I was 15. I won the juniors here, that was the kickstart.”

Continuing further, she added, “Being here is so special to me, because this tournament was the start of me living out this dream. I honestly didn’t think playing on this stage was possible when I played the juniors, so 13 years later to be holding this trophy, it really is amazing.”

Moreover, she also hoped that this win would inspire young kids to take up tennis. “I’m a little girl from the south side of Chicago. Winning this title in Melbourne, I hope this inspires people,” she concluded. Her partner Katerina Siniakova was equally overwhelmed and why not. Since 2015, she has now become the first player to reach double digit figures in winning Majors in doubles. Ten years ago, Martina Hingis accomplished this feat when she won Wimbledon, at 34, with Sania Mirza.

Moving forward in the 2025 season, Townsend and Siniakova will now participate with different partners. Townsend’s next doubles campaign will begin at the Singapore Open on Wednesday. With compatriot Caroline Dolehide, she will go against the pair of Xu Yifan and Moyuka Uchijima. On the other hand, Siniakova will be seen competing at the Linz Open in Austria. On Wednesday, she and her partner Shuai Zhang will up be against Kimberley Zimmermann and Quinn Gleason.
