Billie Jean King is an inspiration
The American tennis professional has many achievements tied to her name. She is a former World no. 1 with 39 Grand Slam titles. 12 titles in singles, 16 in doubles, and 11 in mixed doubles. Moreover, she founded the Women’s tennis association and women’s sports Foundation and also holds a place in the Tennis Hall of Fame.
King has always believed in gender equality and is working for the same. She worked to create a welcoming environment for women in tennis in her earlier days, though she didn’t stop there. King later worked on getting rid of hostility for women in other games.
In the year 2014, she founded the Billie Jean king leadership initiative to create diverse opportunities at different levels. Further, this organization collaborated with NHL to increase the diversity in hockey at every level. The first project that this collaboration brought to life was Female Hockey Ambassador Program. The program is supposed to channel its entire focus on the development of women in hockey. Therefore, proving the fact that Billie never forgot her initial motives.
