Venus Williams has built a reputation for herself with her outstanding achievements over the years. She is an example of resilience and hard work to millions of people around the world, both on and off the court. Since 2019, she has been working under the guidance of Eric Hechtman. Recently, in a podcast interview, Eric Hechtman talked about the 7-time Grand Slam champion.

Early in her career, Venus Williams gained notoriety and paved the way for Serena to flourish on the WTA tour. Now, Hechtman has weighed in on why the 42-year-old is not appreciated as much as her younger sister?

Hechtman on Venus being undervalued

When the younger sister came into the limelight, Venus was gradually inching her way to the pinnacle of the women’s circuit. Eric Hechtman, in the Match Point Canada podcast, talked about Venus’ potential and how she silently overcame every hurdle.

When asked about Venus Williams, he said, “For everything Venus has overcome, from her syndrome to battling her sister and still maintaining an unbelievable relationship, it’s not easy. And she still won 7 slams in singles, right I don’t know in singles, doubles, mix doubles, three events in the tournaments, and winning all of them. So she’s just, I do feel like..she is a little underappreciated for all that she’s accomplished. There is no doubt. But she’s a class act, the ultimate class act.”

He continued, “You got Roger on the guy’s side, you got Venus on the girl’s side.. are equal in my opinion.

Venus Williams to compete in this year’s US Open

The elder Williams sister is a former WTA World No.1 and a seven-time Grand Slam champion. Along with 49 singles and 22 doubles titles, Venus has also won five Olympic medals. Her fiercest rival on the tour has been her younger sister, Serena. The iconic Williams sister duo have faced each other 31 times on the tour, with Serena triumphing in 19.
