World No.8 Serena Williams recently defeated Mihaela Buzarnescu in the second round of the French Open 2021. Even though she lost the second set, the American legend bounced back in the decider. The final scoreline of the match was 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.
In the post-match interview, Buzarnescu talked about her experience of playing against the 23-time Grand Slam champ. It was the first time when she faced Williams on the court and revealed that it was always her dream to play against her.

“Yeah, it was really, for me, it was like a dream for a long time to play against her, because since I was young, I was following her and her sister,” said Buzarnescu in the interview.

The Romanian player admitted that she has been following Serena and her sister, Venus Williams, since the time she was young. Thus, it was nothing short of a dream come true for her.

Goal to play against such a legend: Mihaela Buzarnescu on Serena Williams
Although Buzarnescu lost the match, she mentioned that it was always her goal to encounter Williams once in her lifetime. She even gave a pretty decent fight to her and exhibited some great skills on the court.

“Was always like, let’s say, a goal to play against such a legend,” added the 33-year-old player.
After having a poor start on clay, Williams has regained her form and momentum. Even though she faced some troubles in her last two matches at the French Open 2021, she proved that she still has got the winner’s mindset to excel on the surface.

Serena Williams will now head to the third round of Roland Garros 2021 where she’ll face her compatriot Danielle Rose Collins. Fans surely have huge expectations from her. Will she be able to win her 24th Grand Slam title in Paris this year?
