The women’s finals at the French Open have always been a display of sheer grit and determination. This year was no different, as we saw some of the most talented female tennis players compete for the title. Today’s match between Iga Swiatek and Karolina Muchova concluded the women’s category at Roland Garros. Recalling her own win at the French Open, one player, in particular, got nostalgic. The Russian tennis star, Maria Sharapova who has won the French Open twice, took to her Instagram story to share her memories of her 2012 triumph at Roland Garros.

As Sharapova watched this year’s women’s finals at the French Open, she was reminded of the emotions she felt during her own victory. The sight of the players battling it out on the clay courts, the cheers of the crowd, and the thrill of victory brought back memories of her own triumph.

Recalling the same, she posted a story on her Instagram account. Sharapova shared a picture of herself holding the French Open trophy in 2012. It was posted with the caption “This Memory, Roland Garros Championship Saturday”.

In 2012, Sharapova faced off against Sara Errani in the final. Despite Errani’s formidable skills, Sharapova was able to dominate the match, winning in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). While she reminisced about this victory recently, there was a time when Sharapova couldn’t decide who could take the baton from her on the WTA Tour.

Sharapova does not see anyone who can take her place on the court

The Russian tennis star has a record of 5 Grand Slam titles to her name. However, despite new names making their mark on the WTA Tour, Sharapova does not see anyone as her heir. In an interview with Gazzetta she mentioned that there is no one at the moment who she finds appealable enough.

She continued that there are many excellent players with different styles. But no one that she can call her heir or can take her place in the tournaments. Sharapova felt that for success, you need to have a perfect balance between sponsors, games, commitments, and free time.
