Its been a long since the American tennis icon, Venus Williams has been actively involved in any major tournament. However, recent speculations have emerged on social media claiming that the seven-time Grand Slam singles champion might be returning for the Davis Cup. Additionally, Williams is being touted to take an intriguing role for the USA tennis team for the tournament.

A number of renowned names, including that of the American tennis legend have been put forward on social media by some tennis experts. The speculations recently surfaced on online platforms amidst reports of Mardy Fish’s exit as captain of the Davis Cup Team.

Venus Williams is supposedly in contention to potentially replace Mardy Fish

Mardy Fish has received a lot of backlash from fans as the captain of Team USA after his team was eliminated from the Davis Cup. Notably, a recent report put forward by podcast host Craig Shapiro suggests that Mardy Fish might be leaving his role as the caption of the US team. Shapiro on his online platform stated that “Sources telling me Mardy Fish is out as captain of Davis Cup Team. I guess you can’t have Jack Sock pick your team and have the world 1 sitting watching at home.”

Another tennis expert, Mike Metzger took note of the reports put forward by Shapiro. Metzger further pointed towards the American tennis player, Rajeev Ram, who had an amazing season and still was left out of the team. He stated, “@jon_wertheim mail bag topic? Still unclear why Ram was left off.”

Jon Wertheim, a renowned journalist, replied to Metzger, saying, “Correct. Hear the discussion is about the successor… go with an internal candidate; or shake it up with an outside-the-box choice.”

Another journalist, Ben Rothenberg took note of the conversation between Wertheim and Metzger. He further put forward the name of the 5-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams for the role of captain of the US team. Rothenberg, on his social media, stated that “If the job is open, Venus Williams seems like a very tough pick to beat.

The 42-year-old Williams, who is still an active player, could have a decent shot at being the next captain of the US team for Davis Cup.
