Serena Williams, the legendary tennis ace, recently shared her 42-year-old elder sister’s financial advice on Twitter. She credited her sister, Venus Williams, for giving her the best advice she had ever received from anyone. Fans have often spotted the legendary sisters complimenting each other in various interviews.
Serena and her sister Venus have broken records and barriers, on and off the court. They have won a combined 30 Grand Slam singles titles, 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and three Olympic doubles gold medals. The legendary sisters’ fascination with technology is nothing new. The two have supported several start-ups and are dedicated to advancing women in the technology sector.

Serena Williams shares her ‘favorite advice’ she got from her sister
In a recent interview at the Trial Tech X Conference, Serena addressed media and fans. She shared her elder sister, Venus Williams‘ advice that she couldn’t forego. The official Twitter handle of the conference sponsors shared the tweet, “@serenawilliams shares precious advice she received from her sister @venuswilliams.”
In the audio clip shared via the tweet, Serena asked her followers to not let others put their limitations on themselves. Serena was quoted as, “I think Venus recently gave me my new favorite advice. It’s like whenever someone says you can’t do it, it’s because they can’t do what you can do”
Serena implemented Venus’ advice in both her tennis career and off-court ventures. In 2017, Serena financed and established the San Francisco-based venture capital firm Serena Ventures. It obtained $111 million in funding in 2022.

Her firm has 60 companies in its portfolio, including SendWave, MasterClass, and Daily Harvest. Serena further added in the interview, “..and don’t let them put what they can’t do on you. I just thought that was genius”
Serena Williams, who is listed among the wealthiest self-made women in America by Forbes, is reported to be worth $260 million. The 23-time Grand Slam Champion has more than a dozen corporate sponsors and her $94 million in career prize money is more than enough to build her own legacy in the business world.

Venus graduated from the Indiana University East with a bachelor of science in business administration in 2015, in addition to a degree in fashion design and certification as an interior decorator.

Venus used her skills outside of the court in 2002 when she founded V Starr Interiors, her interior design firm. Williams and six other female designers currently lead the business. Moreover, she has also established highly successful ventures in other sectors such as fashion (EleVen by Venus Williams) and the up-and-coming superfoods industry (Happy Viking).
