It will be apt to say that Iga Swiatek, the Polish tennis professional, took over the WTA Tour this season. She touched the headlines for the first time when her streak passed the test that Indian Wells and Miami Open had to offer. Since then Swiatek, who initially earned her ranking of World no.1 because of Ash Barty’s retirement, has proved herself worthy of the top spot.

In fact, she has surpassed Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal this season in one particular off-court record. The WTA no.1 has taken the lead in terms of prize money by winning eight titles this season.
Iga Swiatek made history this season
The winner of two Grand Slam titles and semifinalist of the Australian Open has pocketed more money than the two remaining big three players on the ATP Tour, which is considered more lucrative than the WTA. Swiatek recently concluded her WTA Finals campaign with a semifinal run. However Nadal and Djokovic are yet play.
The 21-year-old is currently standing tall with a total of 9,405,525 dollars before her participation in the WTA Finals. Whereas the 22 times Grand Slam champion Nadal has earned $6,699,851 and the 2022 Wimbledon champion Djokovic has $4,739,252. Further, her total is even higher than the ATP world no.1 Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard has banked $7,519,409 up till now.
In WTA, following Swiatek, the Tunisian tennis professional and current World no.2, Ons Jabeur, who competed for the US Open trophy against her, is at $4,777,069. And the London-based major champion Elena Rybakina has won $3,597,100 in prize money.

The Pole earned the ranking of World no.1 after the shock retirement of 2022 Australian Open champion, Ashleigh Barty. Though, since then she hasn’t let anyone close to challenge her place at the top. Newcomers like Coco Gauff did make an effort, but Swiatek pulled something of a Serena Williams this year.
She started her reign at the Qatar Open and executed a monstrous 37-match win streak. She became the youngest woman to bag three major titles since 2008 and also the only player since 2014 to win eight singles titles.

Further, she is among the few players who triumphed in both the clay-based majors and the American swing’s biggest event in the same season and is the ninth women’s player to win three Grand Slam titles before turning 22. In addition, her victory at the US Open was the first major triumph for Poland in singles on United States soil.
