The tennis community is still not over the greatest female slayer in the open era- Serena Williams. Although it has now been months after her retirement, Serena fans still love to go back to her accolades from time to time. One such nostalgic post for Serena fans is now viral on Reddit where Serena’s 2003 Australian Open win is the topic of discussion. The post is a collage of Serena’s pictures during and after the big win.

Fans on Reddit have not been shy with their comments on the post. While some were delighted to witness the throwback post , others were emotional about Serena’s withdrawal from tennis. The post is further significant in today’s date as it was on 26th January 2003 when Serena sealed the victory.

Looking back at Serena Williams in the AO 2003 finals

Serena Williams probably has one of the largest fanbases among all athletes, ever. And her fans were not shy to make their feelings known about her iconic 2003 run in the Australian Open.

A user on Reddit, ‘@u/madisonrees’ posted a picture back from 2003. The picture is of the Australian Open final which was held on 26th January 2003.

The finalists for the women’s category were the power duo, Serena and Venus, facing each other. The match ultimately resulted in Serena’s big win. This was her first Australian Open win and it finally got her all four Grand Slams in her kitty.

The photo is captioned, “And thus, the Serena Slam was born.”

Fans were quick to point out that Serena’s sister Venus was the final opponent in the Grand Slam final.

A fan says that although the ‘Serena Slam’ is surely a big deal, there should be an “almost Venus slam”. The 42-year-old legendary tennis player got into some serious competition with her sister in the Grand Slam finals. as the world remembers fondly. In 2023, Venus’ participation in the AO was highly awaited. Sadly she drew out of the tournament owing to injuries.

Looking back at the match, it was a monumental victory in Serena’s career. Winning the Australian Open provided her with all four major slams at that time in her career . At the end of the match, Serena had clearly dominated with a 7–6, 3–6, 6–4 win.
