20-Year-Old British Star Emma Raducanu Receives Prestigious Honor From King Charles for Her Remarkable Tennis Journey

Emma Raducanu, the British tennis star, recently received a prestigious award. The 20-year-old tennis star was included on the 2022 British New Year Honours List. The British sensation recently received the title at a ceremony conducted at Windsor Castle.

The Brit shared that she felt incredibly grateful to have received her title. With a 17-19 win-loss record, Raducanu ends this year’s campaign at no. 75 in the WTA rankings. She is currently without a full-time coach as she gets ready for the 2023 season.

In the 2021 US Open, Raducanu was just 18 years old when she defeated Leylah Fernandez, 6-4, 6-3. The young tennis star had never played a top-40 player before competing in New York, and the US Open was just the second Grand Slam competition of her career. Raducanu’s victory made her the first British woman to win a Grand Slam since 1977.

The Brit is capping off 2022 in style, after being awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) by King Charles III. After the ceremony, her agent released a statement on her behalf that read: “It’s been great to receive my honor today from his Majesty the King – I feel extremely grateful.” The 20-year-old beamed with pride as she posed for photos with her newest accolade.

Fans and media outlets were quick to pour their congratulatory messages for the young tennis star.

Raducanu is the youngest woman to win a major since 2004. In 2004, a young 17-year-old, Maria Sharapova, defeated Serena Williams in the Wimbledon final. If Raducanu’s win at the Grand Slam tournament as a qualifier wasn’t impressive enough, Raducanu did it without dropping a set.

For the first time since Serena Williams in 2014, Raducanu won the US Open without dropping a set.

Raducanu recently celebrated her birthday with friends and family

On November 13, Raducanu celebrated her 20th birthday at the Four Seasons Hampshire Hotel. Raducanu shared a photo of the cake along with a group selfie with some of her friends. She also thanked her fans for their good wishes.

Raducanu is the brand ambassador for the eminent fashion house, Dior. The Brit received a gift for the child inside of her from the fashion house. She pressed the button commandeered by Dior. By the button, she illuminated the 44 windows of the renowned Harrods luxury department store in London.
