The Australian Open 2022 is drawing closer with the passing of each day. While elite players like Rafael Nadal, Naomi Osaka, Ashleigh Barty, Daniil Medvedev, amongst others having already announced their participation, there’s a 17-years-old Australian, Taylah Preston who has received a wildcard for the competition’s qualifying stages.

Preston recently won the Newcombe Medal in the female Juniors department. She earned recognition as the Female Junior Athlete of the Year.

17-years-old Taylah Preston received a wildcard for the Australian Open qualifying stages

Australians will be quite happy right now as their 17-years-old female tennis player, Taylah Preston has received the wildcard for the Australian Open‘s qualifying stages. A few days ago, Preston was awarded the topmost individual honor in Australian tennis, the Newcombe Medal. Now, it’s her time to show her talent at Melbourne Park.

 

” Incredibly grateful to receive this award, thank you @tennisaustralia. Massive thanks to my coach Brad Dyer and @nextsteptennisacademy, as well as my family. Looking forward to an exciting 2022,” she wrote on her Instagram.

Preston has been performing really well on the ITF and Challenger’s circuit. With many notable performances, she has grabbed several titles. The main draw of the Australian Open will commence from 17th January 2022. It’ll be really interesting to see whether Preston makes it to the main draw or not.

Novak Djokovic’s participation is still uncertain

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic still hasn’t confirmed his availability for the Australian Open 2022. While his rival, Rafael Nadal has arrived at Melbourne Park, there’s yet no word from Djokovic.

” As far as the status relates to Novak, I think we’ll have a much clearer picture in the coming days otherwise it’s getting pretty late to show up and play the Australian Open, “ said tournament director, Craig Tiley.

In the coming days, we’ll see how the mystery unfolds around the nine-time Australian Open champion. People are anticipating watching Novak Djokovic at the hard courts of Melbourne Park. However, with the strict protocols released around a month ago, Djokovic will have to release some statement very soon.
