Every sport has its own list of the greatest athletes of all time. However, the sports world always loves to draw comparisons between the GOATs of different sports. And a similar incident took place some time ago, which has been doing rounds on Twitter recently. In one of the ‘Top 5 Greatest Athletes of All Time’ lists put out by ESPN; the only female athlete that was mentioned was the American tennis legend, Serena Williams.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion was in the 5th position on the list. And not everyone was happy with the ‘Queen of Court’ appearing on the list. Consequently, sports fans brought the ‘battle of sexes’ match into the context.

Sports world rebuffs Serena Williams’ entry in the Top 5 GOAT list

Other than the American tennis legend, the TOP 5 list contained names of the NBA GOAT Michael Jordan, boxer Muhammad Ali, MLB great, Babe Ruth, and the NFL great, Tom Brady. However, sports fans were not very keen on welcoming the younger Williams sister to the group. And hence, took to Twitter, remembering the match between the former World No.1 and the then World No 202 in men’s Karsten Braasch.

Tennis fans would certainly remember the historic ‘battle of the sexes’ matches involving the Veteran tennis legend Billie Jean King. A similar match took place between Karsten Braasch and Williams, during which the former got the better of the 23-time Grand Slam champion. Furthermore, some fans didn’t recognize Serena as the Greatest tennis star, let alone a GOAT in the entire sporting world. And hence, reacted sharply to the list.

One fan tweeted, “Serena wouldn’t be ranked in the top 100 in men’s tennis but she’s somehow on this list?”  While another asked for the rank of Braasch.
