Over the past few seasons, the engagement in NCAA women’s basketball championship has constantly been growing in terms of both viewership and investment. Further, the recently concluded March Madness women’s championship Finals clash between LSU Tigers and Iowa Hawkeyes turned out to be the highest-scoring game in WBB tournament history. A lot of ardent fans of the sport have been hugely impressed by the same, including the husband of Serena Williams.

Speaking of its growing popularity in the basketball community, Alexis Ohanian expressed his delight over the women’s NCAA tournament eclipsing the men. In the process, the Angel City co-founder also backed his investments in women’s sports.

From the current president of the US to several renowned names in the sports realm, everyone is talking about the thrilling clash between the LSU Tigers and Iowa Hawkeyes. In addition to breaking viewership records, this season’s March Madness WBB clash also became the highest-scoring game in the tournament history. Notably, the renowned journalists Elle Duncan hailed it as one of the best events.

She said, “We just watched the highest scoring game in WBB tournament history, after one of the best Semis EVER – filled with incredible stories and highlights and y’all are really on here arguing over sportsmanship.”

Taking note, Alexis Ohanian retweeted the post while asserting that the NCAA women’s basketball tournament has managed to eclipse the men in terms of both viewership and business. He said, “The silver lining is that everyone is talking about @MarchMadnessWBB — even eclipsing the men at times — and attention is EVERYTHING in this business, so I believe this was a tipping point for the women’s game.”

He followed it up with another tweet, stressing on the importance of investing in women’s sports, which is growing in popularity with each passing day. In the process, the American internet entrepreneur, who is a proud co-owner of the NWSL club, Angel City FC, urged others to invest in women’s sports. Ohanian said, “Just the start. #InvestInWomensSports,” while he shared some of the viewership records broken by this season’s NCAA Women’s National Championship.

Even the former POTUS, Barack Obama, was impressed with the thrilling game of basketball. He tweeted, “Congrats to the new champs, @LSUwbkb! They earned it, and I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more from them in the years ahead.”

NCAA players are also dominating in social media

Some of the women college basketball athletes have surpassed men on various online platforms during this season’s tournament. A number of NCAA women players have more than 20,000 Instagram followers, which is much more than the total of men’s teams.

Taking note of it, Alexis Ohanian previously took to Twitter to express his delight over the growing engagement of women’s sports on social media. In doing so, he also slammed the NCAA authorities for showing disparities in their facilities and equipment for women players.
