Serena Williams and Tiger Woods changed tennis and golf respectively, forever. At the time Serena came up and became a professional along with her sister Venus, there weren’t many people from the black community involved in the sport. However, both the Williams sisters excelled at the sport and dominated it individually and collectively for more than two decades. The same happened when Tiger Woods started to make a name for himself. Recently, Snoop Dogg, the iconic American rapper and entrepreneur, sat down for an interview with The Pivot Podcast. During his interview, the rapper highlighted Serena Williams and Tiger Woods’ achievements in their respective sports. According to Snoop Dogg, young black athletes can succeed in any sport if they get the opportunity to learn from an early age, irrespective of what the doubters think.

In his interview, Snoop Dog alluded to an opinion that was once quite popular in American society, which was skeptical regarding black athletes’ chances of succeeding in sports such as golf and tennis. “They didn’t even think we knew how to play golf. They didn’t even think we knew how to play tennis. But lo and behold, Tiger Woods f**ked the game up. Serena Williams f**ked the game up.”

The rapper also believes that there’s every chance for young black players to taste success in any sport. He cited ice hockey as an example. “Hockey is a growing sport. It’s a Canadian sport so to speak, but it’s a global sport. It’s international. And I feel like black kids would love to play it if it was offered to them, if they knew how to get on the ice at an early age. They got athleticism.”

Snoop Dogg has always been supportive of Serena

In 2017, Snoop Dogg came out in support of Serena Williams after it became public knowledge that she would tie the knot with tech investor and entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian. At the time, the rapper interviewed Ohanian. He also expressed how happy he was for him and hyped his to-be wife at the time as “the best”.

According to Snoop Dogg, Ohanian was a great match for Williams owing to how much he appreciated her beyond the court. The rapper said that after Williams’ tennis career comes to an end, Williams would need someone to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of her. The rapper thought that Ohanian possessed these qualities in abundance, making him perfect for Williams.

And as we can see today, Snoop Dogg’s words were far ahead of the time as he predicted exactly how Ohanian would support Serena in her off-court endeavors.
