‘Came Through Like a Wrecking Ball’ – Lewis Hamilton Pens Down an Inspiring Tribute to ‘Superhero’ Friend Serena Williams on the Occasion of Her Retirement

On Friday, Serena Williams played the last match of her professional tennis career, as she said goodbye to tennis with teary eyes. After the match, she received some lovely tributes from many tennis players. Meanwhile, one of her best friends, Lewis Hamilton, also paid homage to the champion tennis player just before his race at the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday.

Notably, Hamilton and Serena have been good friends for a very long time and we have seen them attending each other’s matches or races in the past. Moreover, Serena is also a massive F1 fan.

Lewis Hamilton sends a heartfelt farewell message to Serena Williams

Earlier, the 7-time F1 World Championship winner, Lewis Hamilton, took to Instagram and shared some lovely photos of Serena. And in the caption, he wrote a heartfelt and lengthy message. Some of the most memorable portions of the message were, “We will never see another Serena. She’s one of a kind. She came through like a wrecking ball and has been so spectacular to witness. She has such fierceness, power, and strength in both body and mind…“

“Seeing such talented women dominating a field where no one looked like them gave me hope. They made me believe that superheroes are real, and they can look me and my family. I knew that I wasn’t alone because of you. I can’t thank you two enough,” Hamilton further wrote.

“Still today you remind me to never give up, you remind me what we stand for and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart… Serena, I’m wishing you all the happiness in what’s next for you. You truly deserve it,” he concluded. 

Notably, Hamilton wrote this message before the Dutch Grand Prix, where he finished fourth. Although the British F1 legend did not start the season in great fashion, he is gaining momentum as the season progresses. Hamilton is one of the very first race car drivers of African descent in F1 history.

Hamilton and Serena supported each other in the past

Over the years, we have seen Hamilton attend Wimbledon matches of Serena. Recently, at the Miami GP, the whole Williams family, including Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian and sister Venus Williams, attended the race just to support the Brit. Apart from sporting events, both of them appeared in multiple Met Gala events, where they looked stunning wearing spectacularly unique dresses.

Meanwhile, Serena is getting ready for the next phase of her life, as she is looking to expand her family. However, there is still a slight chance that we see her returning to the sport in the future.
