Novak Djokovic had his fans excited for his thirty-fourth career Slam, and Twitter was on fire as fans couldn’t hold their horses! Djoker faced Norwegian Casper Rudd at the Stade Roland Garros final. While the seven times French Open winner was eyeing his twenty-third Slam title, Rudd awaited his first. Ultimately, Djokovic won and became the undisputed GOAT of men’s tennis in terms of Grand Slam numbers. However, the 36-year-old’s celebration after his semifinal win against Carlos Alcaraz proved to be one of the most controversial moments at this year’s French Open. Despite the controversy, Alcaraz displayed maturity beyond his years during the post-match press conference.

Novak Djokovic’s actions are closely observed by the media. One wrong step, and he ends up in a controversy. When the media attempted to stir something up, given Alcaraz’s cramps, he refused to give any excuse for his loss and praised the World number-3 for his win. Fans of Djokovic were over the moon about his victory. One among them posted about it on Twitter, to which Serena Williams’ former coach Rennae Stubbs reacted. The reaction turned out to be quite scathing.

The 2023 French Open winner was disqualified from the 2020 US Open after accidentally hitting a line umpire. Journalist and author Puneet Bhandal, an ardent fan of Djokovic, referred to the incident in a tweet praising the Serbian.

This tweet did not go well with Serena Williams’s ex-coach, Rennae Stubbs. She replied, “List whatever u want but to say he was unfairly DQ at the US OPEN is a ridiculous statement. I know u are a super fan & nothing I say to you will matter but this statement is absolutely false & until you can at least accept that HE was at fault there, your credibility is shot.”

Puneet Bhandal, who goes by the username ‘Tennis Puneet,’ is a verified member on Twitter. Her feed is filled with her fan moments and the greatness of  Djokovic. Not only she but many fans were against Djokovic’s disqualification from the 2020 US Open.

Djokovic also stirred up controversy last year owing to his anti-vaccination stance. It ultimately cost him his place at the Australian Open.
