The fight for gender equality in the world of tennis has been an ongoing battle, with athletes like Serena Williams leading the charge and using their platforms to make a difference. The creation of the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) is a significant step in the right direction, seeking to give tennis players a unified voice and representation. Stuart Duguid, the co-founder of EVOLVE, the management company that also represents tennis star Naomi Osaka, recently shed light in an interview on what prompted Ons Jabeur, the Tunisian tennis sensation, to take up a leadership position in the PTPA, with gender equality being a driving factor.

Stuart Duguid shares what inspired Ons Jabeur to take up a leadership position at PTPA

Ons Jabeur, a trailblazer in her own right, is the highest-ranked Arab woman in tennis history and has been making waves on the court with her impressive performances. Jabeur’s decision to join the PTPA in a leadership position is a testament to her commitment to not only excel on the court but also contribute to the betterment of the sport for future generations.

Stuart shared Ons’ inspiration. He said in an interview with PTPA, “I think there are numerous issues that she’s interested in. But the one I know is at the forefront is gender equality. I think that’s extremely important to her and something I think she wants to dig into and lean into on the PTPA side.”

Further, he also praised Ons Jabeur for being an incredible persona both on and off the court. He said, “I think she’s just an incredible trailblazer for women in general, but especially Arab women and North African women. And I think to see someone like that that they can look up to is incredibly powerful. And for her to take on this leadership position (in the PTPA), I think just adds even more gravitas to that and shows how much she cares about the sport and making a difference.”
