The Public Investment Fund (PIF) has taken its LIV Golf to new heights. After investing immense amounts, they have now signed up with the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA), and there is more news that it will expand its portfolio into the ATP. The deal is not final yet, but several have spoken out against it. However, Billie Jean King, WTA founder and legend, is on the other side of the argument.
While King is supporting the possible move, her compatriots are standing against her. John McEnroe and Chris Evert are against her. The two are not happy about the Saudi takeover of tennis, and they have made their opinions known.

Billie Jean King lauds new possible investment
The PIF showed interest in investing a significant amount in the ATP, and discussions have been held quite often. Andrea Gaudenzi, a chair of ATP, has come out and stated that so far, the talks are progressing positively. While there is positive progress, Gaudenzi noted that she hopes new investment won’t mean the status quo will be breached.
King said, “How are we going to change things if we don’t engage? It’s hard. I’m a total optimist. I always think the best of people. We have to keep trying.“

King was responsible for the creation of the WTA in 1973. Due to her exploits, the status of women’s tennis has advanced greatly and the racket sport is one of the few which gives equal prize money. While the WTA founder looks at the new investment as a chance to grow, some of her compatriots have opposed the idea.
John McEnroe and Chris Evert oppose Saudi Arabian influence
As the news of the PIF and ATP went viral, several voices opposed the deal being finalized. Some of those individuals are John McEnroe and Chris Evert. McEnroe said that he did not encourage the deal. But unfortunately, he believes that money is the leading factor in the matter. Evert agreed with the foul-mouthed former player and said that ‘sportswashing’ should not be encouraged.
