Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova are two of tennis’ most prominent names in history. Over their career, they have won a combined 25 Grand Slam titles. While Sharapova retired from the sport in 2020, Djokovic continues his quest to write further history in tennis.

Sharapova is active on social media, keeping her fans updated after leaving the sport. She is now a force in the business world, with multiple investments and ventures including UFC and Therabody.
Sharapova recalls awkward date with Novak Djokovic
In an Instagram live in 2020, Sharapova spoke to her former compatriot Novak Djokovic during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Russian said, “We played this little exhibition at La Quinta in Indian Wells [in California].”

“And I think we’re playing a mixed-doubles against each other, and you said that if you’d win, I would have to pay dinner. And I was like, ‘Okay, whatever, who is this kid?” she added.
After Djokovic’s victory, he asked her to a Japanese restaurant. “You’re like, ‘We have dinner, tonight. We’re going to the Japanese place,” and I was like, ‘Are you serious? You and me going to dinner?’” she said.
Since then, Djokovic married his longtime girlfriend Jelena in 2014, while Sharapova is pregnant with her first child with fiancé Alexander Gilkes.

The Serbian has lost the World No.1 ranking this season, dropping to No. 3 currently. He has managed to win a single title in Rome this year. With controversies regarding his COVID-19 vaccination status, he has been unable to replicate the form from last season.

Djokovic comes off 2021, winning 3 out of the 4 Grand Slams making all the finals. However, this time around he is the top seed at Wimbledon with eyes on an elusive 21st Grand Slam title. He is a 6-time Champion at Wimbledon, winning his first title back in 2011.
