Yesterday, 3-time Grand Slam winner Ashleigh Barty shocked the world by announcing her sudden retirement from tennis. Earlier this year, Barty won the Australian Open on her home soil to grab her third Major title. The way she dominated her opponent at the Australian Open, many thought she would be a clear favorite to win all Slams this year. Many players and coaches expressed their views on Barty’s decision. Serena Williams’ coach Patrick Mouratoglou also shared his views.

Earlier, Mouratoglou tweeted about Barty praising the player for following her heart. Now, the coach congratulated the Aussie player on his Instagram and wished her the best of luck for the future. 

“Rare enough to see some people follow their heart rather than the stream. Bravo @ashbarty,” the French coach tweeted earlier.

“Congrats on a brilliant career @ashbarty and best of luck in whatever you decide to chase next,” Mouratoglou wrote in a caption as he shared a post on his Instagram.

 

Barty lacked motivation

Although many are congratulating the Australian player, people are still trying to figure out Barty’s decision. Also, she just won the Australian Open and was in tremendous form since the start of 2022.

According to her coach, Craig Tyzzer, Barty wanted to retire after winning the French Open in 2019. Now, after winning the Australian Open, he thought the motivation wasn’t there anymore. For him, it was not a surprising decision. 

Earlier, Barty revealed winning Wimbledon was one of her biggest dreams, which she achieved in 2021. Then, after winning the Australian Open, she felt her job was done, as she made the announcement.

Meanwhile, the Australian player held a press conference to talk about her retirement further. According to her, she achieved everything there was to achieve. She also gave credit to her team for being with her along her journey. Moreover, she doesn’t have any regrets, as she bids adieu to tennis.

In the meantime, fans are speculating over her next career move. She already tried cricket before coming back to tennis. Now, we could potentially see her playing golf.
