The tennis fraternity was not ready for this! After the shocking retirement of Serena Williams, the sporting world had just started to regain its composure. But Roger Federer recently announced that he will retire from professional tennis as well. After the news spread like wildfire, Serena Williams took to Instagram to commend the glorious career of the Swiss Maestro. She left him a heartfelt message expressing how he has been an inspiration for millions around the world.

Federer and Serena have always shared a camaraderie between them since their early days in the tennis circuit. Both legendary players started dominating their respective tours around the same time, in the early 2000s.

Serena Williams’ heartfelt tribute to her friend Roger Federer

The 23-time grand slam champion recently retired after playing her last grand slam tournament, the US Open. It was an emotional ride for the player as well as her fans. However, she was not ready to bid farewell to her friend and tennis legend, Roger Federer.

Williams took to Instagram to hail the player and stated, “I wanted to find the perfect way to say this, as you so eloquently put this game to rest – perfectly done, just like your career.” She expressed her admiration for the player. “You inspired countless millions and millions of people – including me – and we will never forget,” she said.

She stated, “I have always looked up to you and admired you. Our paths were always so similar, so much the same…” The legendary American perfectly ended her tribute by saying, “Welcome to the retirement club. And thank you for being you @rogerfederer“

Federer himself had hailed Williams on her glorious career after the announcement of her retirement. The two share a wonderful friendship and have taken inspiration from each other.

Serena Williams and Roger Federer had an opportunity to play against each other on the court. This was back in 2019 when Switzerland and the USA had a face-off against each other at the Hopman Cup mixed doubles match. Federer had always wished to play against the legendary tennis player’s strong serve and was delighted when the opportunity arrived.

Federer aced her serves and ended up defeating her in the match. Even then, both the players praised each other after the match. Both Serena Williams and Roger Federer became household names. Everybody associated the sport with these two players. Their on-court presence astounded their fans and people admired them for their tenacity. Roger Federer led a glorious career with 20 grand slam titles under his name.
