The Wimbledon Championships, 2021 will commence from Monday. The SW19 is the most awaited event this year, especially after not taking place last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the rains will play the villain’s role this year, as this season is expected to be the wettest season in the past 15 years!

Out of 134 Wimbledon Championships, the spectators have gotten wet in 126 editions of the tournament. The weather in England during the months of June and July is extremely rainy and windy, even though it is officially the summers.

Research by Essential Living has predicted this season to be the wettest season in 15 years. With an average rainfall of 5.11 mm, the spectators can expect some bad news in the form of interruptions during the matches.

Wimbledon Championships and the history with rains

Warm, sunny and bright skies would be the most ideal setting for the grass court competition. The spectators will expect to have a good time with their strawberries and cream in their hands, watching the fast-paced rallies. However, as per predictions, the tournament does not look like its heading in this direction in 2021.

The rains in 2003 were the heaviest, with 18 mm of rainfall pouring in during the men’s quarterfinal round. The 2021 opening day will be the wettest opening day, since 1991. The Essential Living has dug up data for the seasons with the heaviest rainfall.

The conditions will be pretty humid. With a moderate temperature of 16 degrees and humidity expected to reach 68%, the approximate 21000 fans will not have an easy time at SW19. The players will have to be ready to adapt to the British weather too.

With the withdrawal of numerous big names from the tournament, Wimbledon is wide open for the players to shoot their shot. Players such as Rafael Nadal, Naomi Osaka and Dominic Thiem have withdrawn from the Wimbledon Championships, 2021.
