Is Iga Swiatek's US Open kit a fashion statement or a fashion disaster?

Roger Federer-backed ‘On Running’ has been under the scanner for quite some time for introducing weird combination kits for players. The fans have not liked some of the kits they have presented for Iga Swiatek, the no. 1 ranked player in the world. Ahead of the US Open, the Swiss maestro’s sporting label has caught the tennis world’s attention again. No, they haven’t showcased any unsettling design for Swiatek, it’s just a funny clip that is going viral.

Swiatek has been associated with On Running since 2023, but the fans have not been happy with the repetitive design of her kits. While the player herself has never expressed dissatisfaction, the Swiss company has faced a lot of flak from the fans for not putting enough effort into kit designing despite having signed the World No. 1.

Earlier today, a fan shared a video on X trying to portray how On Running comes up with the eventual kit design for Swiatek. The caption read, “On running designing Iga’s kits.”

The eventual product of the entire process was so colorful that some people might have believed it was On Running’s video, but it was not. While On Running faced criticism for Swiatek’s kit designs in the Australian Open and the French Open, they haven’t released any new designs for the Polish tennis star.

Swiatek is slated to take to the courts of New York after bagging a singles bronze medal at the Paris Olympics earlier this month. Her fans would want to see her in a funky outfit in the last slam of the season, but it all depends on Roger Federer’s On Running.

Have an interesting take?

On Running’ clothing and shoe line made waves in tennis initially after its introduction. However, following the company’s introductory phase, which saw notable players like Ben Shelton draped in its colors, it has experienced a downfall. At least in the eyes of fans, it has, which was why the fans reacted to the viral clip today, even though it was not the clip released by the company itself.

Fans reacted hilariously to the ‘apparent’ kit-design process of On Running

Reacting to the viral clip, one fan wrote, “That literally looks so hideous I can’t.” This isn’t the first time fans have been critical of On Running’s outfit ideas. Notably, at the 2024 Australian Open, the sporting label drew backlash from fans after replenishing Swiatek with an all-white attire. The fans criticized the Federer-backed company for not adding color to the Pole’s ensemble, drawing comparisons to her wardrobe with that of the official dress code for Wimbledon.

Another fan hilariously remarked on the viral clip, stating that the apparel was “a waste of spaghetti,” while one user sarcastically commented, “lolz this is everything.” For those unaware, the Swiss brand has been embroiled in controversy lately for its ‘highly-priced’ shoes as well.

Federer has a 3% stake in On Running and an estimated $300 million chunk to his name. But with growing criticism among fans, it wouldn’t be a surprise if, at some point, he reconsiders his association with the company. However, tennis stars like Swiatek and Shelton who endorse the brand certainly wouldn’t want Federer pulling out, as that would leave them in a fix. What do you think?
