The Mutua Madrid Open trophy redesign has sparked debate among tennis enthusiasts. Every year, supporters look forward to seeing the revamped trophy unveiled with great anticipation. However this year, away from tradition, the new design has angered a lot of fans and sparked debate about the visual direction selected for the esteemed tournament.
From a shield-shaped trophy from 2010 to a Roland Iten-designed statuette a year later to the glass trophy from 2018, the Madrid Open has undergone significant transformation. The evolving design trends has sparked reactions from both players and fans. However, the trophy for this year’s Madrid Open has garnered comments ranging from “conceptual sh*t” to the calls of its designer deserving “a vacation”.

One set of fans were not happy with the design, as among them a fan dropped a tough question, “What on earth is this?!” On the other hand, another fan was totally embarrassed by the way the trophy looked. “This is so embarrasing omg”.
While a fan also made fun of the designer while stating that he might need a vacation on Rikers Island, after his creativity. “Whoever made this deserve a vacation for a month in Rikers Island”.
Subsequently, a fan who has seen trophies evolve over the years was left speechless by the progress the trophy has made. “I’M CRACKLING AHAHAHA..how does it get progressively so much worse like the paint isn’t even”.
Lastly, another fan of the tournament explained how, even after leaving so many beautiful trophies, it was literally the most, “depressing conceptual s**t,” he has ever seen.
While the 2024 Madrid Open will include a new trophy, there is also going to be a big change in sponsorship.
