There is no doubt that fans have been taken aback by Mirra Andreeva’s stellar prowess on the major grass court event in London, the Wimbledon Championships. At the tender age of 16, the Russian tennis player outshined some of the top competitors of high caliber during her remarkable run at the British Slam. However, things changed drastically for the tennis prodigy after her fourth-round defeat against the American tennis star, Madison Keys.

During the thrilling encounter on the Centre Court, the 16-year-old appeared to be ‘throwing her racket’ on the grass for which she was controversially docked a penalty point. The contentious incident, which was already a hot topic of debate for the whole tennis community, has now prompted a hefty fine from the authorities.

The Russian tennis prodigy was trailing 2-5 in the deciding set against Madison Keys when she lost her footing and eventually threw her racket on the ground. Louise Azemar Engzell, who was the umpire during the fourth-round match, saw the 16-year-old player’s actions as ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’ and controversially docked her a penalty point.

The American tennis star, on the other hand, took the opportunity as she converted that point in order to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the?Wimbledon Championship. Despite her complaints that she slipped in an attempt to retrieve a shot, the umpire remained adamant about the decision.

Now, Mirra Andreeva has further been fined an amount of $8,000 (?6,190) for her ‘unsportsmanlike’ actions on the Center Court.

The contentious ‘penalty point’ incident has already sparked a lot of debate in the tennis community with the American legend Andy Roddick commenting on the same.
