Switzerland has some amazing players: Stan Wawrinka on Belinda Bencic winning the gold
Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka won the men’s doubles gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Since then, Switzerland has not experienced any major success at the grand event; Federer’s men’s singles silver medal has been their only medal so far.
However, Bencic has turned the tables with her splendid performance.
“Each Olympic, with a lot of athletes, I think tennis is again showing that in Switzerland we have some amazing players. And she did the amazing job to get the gold plus the doubles medal.
“It’s something really special in Switzerland, that’s for sure,” said Wawrinka during the live.
Wawrinka understood the importance of her win and a gold medal for the country. He certainly missed out on the competition this time around and will forever remember his gold in Beijing.
