Patrick Mouratoglou, the former coach of Serena Williams, made a bold statement about Novak Djokovic. Keeping in mind today’s match and assuming that Novak would win, he tweeted, “Novak can tie Serena as the greatest tennis player of all times today”.
Mouratoglou’s comment has sparked a debate among tennis fans and experts. While some agree with his assessment, others believe that Serena’s record of 23 Grand Slam titles and dominance over two decades make her the clear GOAT.

Firstly, there’s no denying that Djokovic is one of the greatest players of all time. With 20 Grand Slam titles to his name, he’s tied with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. He’s also won a record nine Australian Open titles. He has also held the world no. 1 ranking for a total of 328 weeks.
But while Djokovic’s achievements are impressive, some argue that they don’t quite match up to Serena’s. For starters, Serena has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, more than any other player in the Open Era. She’s also won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and four Olympic gold medals.
Serena’s fans are not happy with Patrick’s tweet
After Mouratoglou’s tweet went viral, Serena’s fans came to her rescue. They are constantly defending how Serena can never be compared to anyone else. One Twitter user commented, “Oh so now it’s okay to compare Serena to her male compatriots but when it was HER breaking the records ya’ll say it was not comparable”.

While most of them defended Serena, some also argued that men’s and women’s tennis cannot be compared. They continued the conversation with, “Sorry Patrick but this doesn’t work like that, men and women are different competitions, not to be mixed … even the rules are different, women bo3 while men bo5”, “Men & women’s tennis are different sports”, and so it goes on.
