Did you know that the British Royal Family has a unique association with tennis? Every year, the Royals are among the most recognized celebrities sighted at Wimbledon, especially in the finals. Over the past few years, Kate Middleton and Prince William have been regulars who thoroughly love the sport. Not only that, they enjoy playing tennis so much that in 2021, the Princess of Wales was seen playing tennis with British tennis star, Emma Raducanu. However, this tradition of involving in everything related to tennis seems to be waning, particularly with the advent of paddle tennis or pickleball.

Now the Prince and Princess of Wales have turned their attention toward the paddle sport. They were recently seen playing a competitive match with friends.

Kate Middleton and Prince William were spotted playing paddle tennis

According to the Sun, the royal pair enjoyed playing paddle tennis in doubles with friends but preferred playing on opposite teams. They were recently spotted at a luxury sports facility near their house in Windsor, where they play for 90 minutes at a time. And a witness who saw the Prince and Princess of Wales play paddle tennis shared a little insight into their game.

He said, “I had to look twice as it seemed surreal but they were having a great time. William was on one team with a male friend and Kate was on the other team with a male friend and there was lots of banter and a lot of laughing but both sides fought every point.”

Further, he also talked about how the royal couple didn’t really look like beginners to paddle tennis. The sport is a cross between squash and tennis, but instead of going for a regular tennis racket, the players usually use a solid padel to hit the ball.

While the couple enjoys playing tennis, they usually keep their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, out of their sporting plans. However, this is not the first time they have shown their love for the paddle sport.

Prince William’s youngest son received a unique birthday present

When Prince William’s youngest child, Prince Louis of Wales, turned 5 a few months ago, he received a special present that concerned many tennis fans. According to Us Weekly, the five-year-old’s birthday celebration consisted mostly of cakes and balloons.

But the gift he got from his parents was something that grabbed everybody’s attention. Among other birthday presents that the five-year-old got, he also received a pickleball set and an outdoor obstacle course. Well, it’s now evident that both Kate Middleton and Prince William like to play pickleball with their youngest boy soon. But, will it affect the tradition of them attending the prestigious Wimbledon finals? We might have an answer to this question in a couple of months.
