One of the most anticipated comebacks on the women’s tour is on the cards as former world number 1 Caroline Wozniacki gears up to return to the tennis court at the Canadian Open, slated to begin on the 7th of August. The 2018 Australian Open winner was forced to take an untimely retirement in 2020 after being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis but has surprised her fans with her comeback announcement after a 3-year hiatus.

Her compatriot, 20-year-old Danish ATP star Holger Rune, apart from being a self-proclaimed fanboy of Roger Federer, has been a long-time admirer of Wozniacki. Ahead of her competitive return, Wozniacki has found herself a practice partner in Rune, and his sister didn’t miss capturing the moments.

Danish WTA legend Caroline Wozniacki announced her return to competitive tennis last month, much to the joy of her fans. Having won 30 WTA titles in her career, Wozniacki became the first Scandinavian woman to reach the number 1 spot in the WTA rankings. After her unfortunate retirement, she made the most of her time away from the court as a mother – she and her husband David Lee were blessed with 2 kids – daughter Olivia and son James, born in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

Wozniacki is now all set to join an elite list of players to make a successful return to the tennis court after becoming a mother. Her fellow countryman and Roger Federer fanboy Holger Rune was spotted practicing with her, ahead of her return. Holger’s sister Alma shared a video of their practice session in her recent Instagram story.

Currently placed at number 6 in the ATP rankings, Holger Rune hasn’t shied away from expressing his admiration for his tennis idols – be it Roger Federer or Caroline Wozniacki. Hence, it goes without saying that Rune is as excited as ever to play alongside a returning Wozniacki, with next year’s Paris Olympics in sight.
