Many young ATP and WTA players look up to him, and one of them is the American teenage sensation Coco Gauff. The young American talent who mesmerized fans with her astounding run at the 2022 French Open is back again and one day hopes to emulate Rafa.

The player is gearing up for the French Open by brushing up her clay-court skills at the Madrid Open. After clinching her first-round victory, she talked about chasing the stats set by Rafa on the clay court.

Coco Gauff ambitiously dreams of becoming like Rafael Nadal

There cannot be another Rafael Nadal. However, there can be another player who strives to reach his excellence on the clay court. If it is Carlos Alcaraz for the ATP Tour, it looks WTA has Coco Gauff who will look to create a legacy like that of Rafa on clay.

Gauff clinched a straight set victory against Irene Burillo Escorihuela in her first round match in Madrid. While giving her post-match interview to Tennis TV, the American player was told that she had a 73% win rate on clay. Gauff amusingly marveled at the stat and accepted that even though hard court is her favorite, she is more dangerous on clay.

Furthermore, she stated, “It’s not quite like Rafa. What is he at? Like 90% or 90 something at French Open? I’ll take my 70.” With that, she gave words to her dreams and stated, “Hopefully, I can get up there one day!”

To reach the level of Rafael Nadal, Gauff has to stay resilient for a long period. Unlike Coco, who is looking to get into the peak years of her career, the 36-year-old tennis legend is battling a serious foot injury in the twilight of his career. With Nadal ramping up his recovery process, speculations about his comeback have heated up.

If he does, he is undoubtedly going to be the crowd favorite. Moreover, he will be on a mission to win his 15th Grand Slam title.

However, his uncle Toni Nadal has presented the brutal reality to his fans. Presuming optimistically that Nadal will make a comeback at his favorite Grand Slam event, the Roland Garros, he shed light on his physical state. In an interview with Eurosport, he stated no one should be fooling themselves, thinking that he will be there with good preparation.
