Coco Gauff has always been open about her love for Novak Djokovic. The 19-year-old has admired the 24-time Grand Slam champion’s tennis skills and effortless timing on the court. But now that the Australian Open is going on and the Serbian tennis player is ready to face Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinal round of the tournament, the WTA teenage sensation might change sides.

As the 19-year-old has also made her way into her first-ever Australian Open semi-finals, she recently brushed off her love for Djokovic while choosing to cheer up for her 26-year-old countrymen. After making it to her first Australian Open semi-finals, the 19-year-old is cheering up for her fellow countrymen to accompany her in the semi-final level. After the quarterfinal, during the post-match on-court interview, she talked about how, for just once, she was keeping her love for the Serbian tennis player aside. While she will be cheering up for her countryman to get further in the tournament,

She said, “A lot of American flags. I think Taylor Fritz plays next so hopefully you can stay and cheer for him. I know you guys like Novak in Australia and I love him too, but I gotta go for my countryman. Hopefully those flags can stay out for the next match.” 

She also highlighted how the ATP world number one is quite last in Australia, but not only did she extend her support to the 26-year-old American, but at the same time, she also urged the crowd to support Fritz during his quarter-final clash. This time, rather than admiring the Serbian tennis player, she made her choices quite clear regarding whom she was supporting in the match.

However, just a few days ago, during the Australian Open Press Conference, the WTA tennis star opened up about how she looks up to the Serbian tennis player in order to learn a key element to improve her game.

While she has taken a lot of lessons from Serena Williams, Roger Federer, and Djokovic himself, She recently opened up about how she is working on having a return, just like the 24-time Grand Slam champion. Gauff stated, “I’ve watched a lot of Novak because I want to return like him. He’s probably the best returner. Yeah, he definitely is. I want to return like him. If you look at his swings on the returns, it’s not like full cuts.”

Not only that, she also highlighted how his returns are quite short and abbreviated when he actually gives him an edge over his opponent. But now, just for the tournament, things have changed in her perspective, but at the same time, she has not denied her love for the Serb.
