The second installment of the Netflix tennis documentary Break Point is out. But, in the six months since the initial part was released, a lot has changed in real life that was not depicted on the screen. Ajla Tomljanovic and Matteo Berrettini, the tennis power couple who aired their turbulent affair on television in episode two, are no longer a couple.
Since 2019, both well-known tennis players have been dating. But a few months ago, they both decided to end their relationship and return to their own lives. Since then, both tennis players’ commitment to the sport has undergone a significant transformation. Recently, in the second half of the documentary, the Australian’s mentor, Chris Evert, shed some light on their breakup and how it has only benefited the 30-year-old.

The 18-time Grand Slam champion and the Australian star both appeared in the second season of the Netflix documentary Break Point. In the show, the 68-year-old tennis legend spoke about Tomljanovic’s amazing run at the 2022 Wimbledon. Not only that, but the former world number one also held her for her improved mentality, joking about how her breakup helped her take on a different outlook as a player.
She said, “She’s stronger now. The last couple of years, all that was missing from her game was the mental part, like she wasn’t hungry enough, or she didn’t want it enough. But I’m starting to see it now, now that she doesn’t have a boyfriend (laughs).”
Further, she talked about how the Australian player had more hunger to win now because she didn’t have a boyfriend. However, she didn’t take the Italian tennis player’s name. But this was a reference to the 30-year-old tennis player’s breakup with Berrettini, which happened a few months ago.

In the same series, the 68-year-old tennis legend also called Australia her daughter. She said, “She’s my daughter. I didn’t have a daughter. I had three sons.” While both of them were able to run into each other sooner than they expected. Additionally, they also revealed the reason behind their breakup in the first episode of the second season.
The reason behind the Berrettini-Tomljanovic break-up
The 30-year-old emphasized that she and the Italian tennis player weren’t meant to be together. She also discussed how this year wasn’t great because she wasn’t at her best after her breakup with Berrettini. Even after being in a relationship for four years, they weren’t content with each other.

The Italian player, however, asserted that their breakup was the result of their discontentment with their relationship. Furthermore, it was not worthwhile to maintain such a connection in real life. However, he recently claimed that meeting his ex-girlfriend after their breakup was somewhat odd.
