Tennis legend Andy Roddick isn’t known for mincing words. Known for his powerful serve and aggressive baseline game during his own reign on the court, Roddick has now turned his sharp wit towards rising star Aryna Sabalenka. In a surprising turn of phrase, Roddick downplayed his own achievements while showering Sabalenka with praise, suggesting she might be destined for greatness. For Roddick, Sabalenka is a “Hall of Famer already.”
Aryna Sabalenka defended her Australian Open title this year and took another step towards being a tennis great. Although she could not defend her Madrid Open title, her performance showed Roddick that she was someone who would enter the Hall of Fame. Speaking on his ‘Served’ podcast, the host, Andy, said, “Sabalenka is now someone who has won two slams, has been number 1 in the world, has won a bunch of Masters 1000s. She’s a Hall of Famer already. She just is, my dumb a** is in, she’s in.”

Andy Roddick earned his place in the Hall of Fame in 2017 with one Grand Slam and one Masters title. “It’s really, really hard for me to look at myself in the context of the people that are in the Hall of Fame; I feel like they are Michael and I’m Tito,” Roddick said, referring to the singer Michael Jackson and one of his older brothers. Whereas Aryna Sabalenka boasts a stronger resume already. Her two Grand Slam wins, five Masters titles, and eight weeks at No. 1 solidify her case for eventual Hall of Fame induction. But what about the World No. 1?
Along with Saba, Roddick also found love and praise for Iga Swiatek, “Swiatek, four majors, nine Masters 1000 titles already, 20 total titles. You could chop her resume into a third, and I think she would still have it.” Addressing how Pole Swiatek ascended to the No. 1 ranking following Ashleigh Barty’s retired in March 2022, 2003 US Open champion said, “However, 100 some odd weeks at number one since Ash Barty retired and kind of handed the number 1 ranking over to her. Swiatek is on her way to becoming one of the best players of all time,” declared Andy.
