The China Open, a prestigious tennis tournament held annually at the National Tennis Center in Beijing, is set to make history. It is offering one of the most significant paychecks ever seen in both the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) events. After a 16-month absence, the WTA and ATP tournaments will be held in Beijing. The absence was caused after Peng Shuai, a Chinese tennis star, disappeared.

She had accused a high-profile Chinese politician of inappropriate behavior. After which she disappeared and in the wake of it, the tournaments stopped happening in China.

The organizers have announced that the women’s singles champion of the 2023 China Open will receive an astounding $1.225 million in prize money, reflecting the growing recognition of women’s achievements in tennis and the importance of gender equality in sports.

In contrast, the men’s singles winner will be awarded a comparatively lower sum of $650,000.
